MONTGOMERY CLIFT, HARPO MARX, GREGORY PECK, and OTHER HOLLYWOOD NOTABLES The eight signatories assign their rights to specified oil leases in Oklahoma to two drilling companies for "the sum of ten dollars and other good and valuable considerations." Document signed: "Laurence W. Beilenson", "Alexander Tucker", "Harpo Marx", "Gary Ward", "George Chasin", 'Chauncey Starr", "Montgomery Clift" and "Gregory Peck", 6 pages (front and verso), 8x14. Shawnee, Oklahoma, 1957 June 1. In exchange for "the sum of ten dollars and other good and valuable considerations," the signers transfer all rights to a lengthy series of specified oil leases in Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma, to the Sooner Drilling Company (1/4 interest) and the Berg and Buck Drilling Company interest. Notarized on page 5. Adolph Arthur "HARPO" MARX (1888-1964), who changed his name to Arthur during WWI, was known for his pantomime and harp playing in the zany Marx Brothers comedies, in which he also chased blondes and created general mayhem. In 1961, the "silent Marx brother" published Harpo Speaks, his autobiography. Nominated for five Academy Awards for Best Actor, GREGORY PECK (1916-2003) won the 1963 Oscar for the role of Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird. He received nominations in 1946 for portraying Father Francis Chisholm in The Keys of the Kingdom, in 1947 for the role of Pa Baxter in The Yearling, 1948 for playing Phil Green in Gentleman's Agreement and 1950 for the role of Brigadier General Frank in Twelve O'Clock High. MONTGOMERY CLIFT (1920-1966), who had made his debut on Broadway at the age of 13, became an instant star after his film debut in 1948's Red River.
