LARRY SIMMS Consent form authorizing the Motion Picture Relief Fund to reproduce Simms' signature and likeness for a series of stamps raising money for needy film industry veterans. However his name has been written by his guardian, Margaret Simms White. An interesting document of the youngster who grew up in in the Blondie movies! Document signed twice by a deputy: "Larry Simms", 1 page, 8x11. Also signed: "By Margaret Simms White/Guadian [sic]". Hollywood, California 1947 June 2. On Simms' behalf, his guardian grants to the Motion Picture Relief Fund, Inc., its successors and assigns, the exclusive right to use Simms' name, autograph, photographic likeness, or artist's sketch of the likeness, for reproduction on engraved, embossed or printed stamps, and in stamp albums, and in connection with the advertising and exploitation of these stamps and stamp albums for sale throughout the world. LARRY SIMMS (b. 1934) appeared in the first of 27 Blondie movies in 1938, filling the role of Blondie and Dagwood's "Baby Dumpling." As in the comic strip which inspired the film series, Baby Dumpling grew up into son Alexander. He was 16 by the time he made his last film in the series. In the meantime, he made a few other film appearances, including two Frank Capra favorites: Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939) and It's a Wonderful Life (as one of the Bailey children, 1946). Simms left the film industry in 1950, joined the navy, studied aeronautical engineering at California Polytechnic, and worked until retirement at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena. The Motion Picture Relief Fund was founded in 1921 to assist ill and needy film industry veterans, as expressed in its motto: "We take care of our own."
