JUDY GARLAND Judy Garland signs a contract with Roxlom Films to appear in Judgment at Nuremberg. Partly Printed Contract signed: "July Garland", 11p, 8x13. No place, 1961 January 4. Page 9 (Section VII) of 12 numbered pages is not present. Garland's "Employment Agreement" with Roxlom Films for "her services as an Actress in the role of 'Irene Hoffman' in the motion-picture photoplay tentatively entitled 'Judgment at Nuremberg'...." Her salary is to be $35,000 for two weeks and "if the time elapsing between the Commencement Date and the completion of Artist's services...shall exceed 2 consecutive weeks", Garland will be paid $3,500 "per day for each full day of such excess". Also signed by the Secretary of Director/Producer Stanley Kramer. Garland was nominated for the 1962 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Judgment at Nuremberg. The multi-talented Judy Garland (1922-1969) sang on stage with her sisters in the late 1920s and appeared on records and films from 1936, but her breakthrough to superstardom came with her role as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz (1939), singing her signature song, "Over the Rainbow". A competent actress and superbly gifted singer, Garland won an Oscar (with 2 more nominations), three Grammys (plus 6 of her recordings in the Grammy Hall of Fame), a Tony, and at least three Emmy nominations during her legendary career. By the late 1940s, her film career was suffering as a result of personal problems, including struggles with alcohol and the barbiturates that finally killed her, but she made a dazzling comeback in concert tours of the 1960s, especially Judy at Carnegie Hall (1961).
