JOHN WAYNE Signed 1968 million-dollar contract (plus a % of the gross) for his starring role in the film which became Big Jake in 1971. This movie was a family affair, with Wayne's sons Patrick and Ethan appearing in the cast. Contract signed: "John Wayne", 8 pages, 8x11. No place, 1968 September 23. Signed boldly in blue ink on page 9. Contract between Wayne and Batjac Productions, casting Wayne as "Jacob McCandles" in a film with the working title Million Dollar Kidnapping. For a guaranteed compensation of $1 million (at $100,000 per week for a minimum of 10 weeks), Wayne commits to be available for filming it between September 15 and November 16, 1970. In addition to this guaranteed salary, Wayne is to receive 10% of gross revenues exceeding $10 million. The fixed and contingent compensation is to be paid in annual installments, defined in the document. Wayne is also guaranteed first star billing in the film credits and all paid advertising. All-American action hero John "Duke" Wayne appeared in over 250 films, primarily in war movies and Westerns. Although he had appeared in 80 low-budget films, Wayne did not become a star until 1939, when he appeared as the Ringo Kid in John Ford's Stagecoach.
