RAINBOW OVER THE RANGE MOVIE DOCUMENTS This collection of contracts is from the 1940 Monogram western Rainbow Over the Range starring Tex Ritter. These documents shed an interesting light on how quickie westerns like these were cast. Document archives. This document archive is a collection of 2-page, 8x21 cast contracts from the 1940 Monogram western Rainbow Over the Range, starring Tex Ritter. These documents include nine contracts signed by most of the cast, including female lead DOROTHY FAY (here "Dorothy Fay Southworth", one year before she married Ritter) and SLIM ANDREWS, who played Ritter's sidekick Slim. They give a glimpse on how the casts of quickie oaters like Rainbow Over the Range - originally titled Rainbow On the Range, according to these contracts - were cast and the kind of compensation that their casts could expect. For instance, all of these contracts were signed with Booths and Saddles Pictures, Inc. between June 19 and 22, 1940, 1 week before shooting began, and were for terms of only 1 week. JIM PIERCE, who played head black hat Jim Rader, was paid a salary of $100, more than female lead Fay, who was paid $75, or sidekick Andrews, who was paid $66. But the highest paid cast member in this collection of documents was frequent extra and occasional stuntman POST PARK, who received $200 for performing an unspecified role.
