Product Description
OTIS REDDING 1965 royalty sharing agreement (8x14) for "Little Ol' Me." Also signed by co-writer Steve Cropper, who also shared credit for Redding's posthumous #1 hit, "Dock of the Bay." Document signed: "Otis Redding Jr.", "Steve Cropper". 1 page, 814. Macon, Georiga, 1965 November 18. Royalty agreement between East Publications Inc.; and Otis Redding and Steve Cropper, co-writers of the song "Little O'l Me". The writers transfer rights to the song to East Publications, in exchange for the following joint royalty payments: 5 cents per copy of piano editions and 50% of the orchestration copies., this sum to be equally divided between Redding and Cropper. OTIS REDDING (1940-1967), an extraordinarily talented rock and soul songwriter and vocalist whose youthful idol had been Little Richard, was just breaking through to stardom when he died in a plane crash on December 10, 1967. He had been a big hit at that year's Monterey Pop Festival. His single "(Sittin' on) the Dock of the Bay" became a #1 hit, but he never lived to hear the release. It became the first ever posthumous #1 hit. Fortunately for everyone but Otis, he had recorded many other songs which were released to acclaim in subsequent years, and some of his earlier songs (like "Try a Little Tenderness") added to his posthumous fame. Years after his death, Redding was enshrined in the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, and received a Grammy for Lifetime Achievement. Songwriter/guitarist STEVE CROPPER (b. 1941) played with Booker T and the M.G.'s, the house band for Reddings record label, Stax. While acquiring a following of its own, the band backed Redding and other artists at studio sessions. Cropper co-wrote "Dock of the Bay," as well as the song featured in this contract. Top left corner ripped away. 1 horizontal fold crease through center. Otherwise fine condition. For more information contact HistoryForSale. DOCUMENT 285226
